RSS Feeds (RSS stands for Really Simply Syndication) allows you to automatically download information from websites when that webpage is updated. An example would be if you signed up for the REA Blog RSS feed, you would automatically be able to view the latest blog entries as the blog is updated.

For this tutorial, I will be using Internet Explorer 7 and Microsoft Outlook 2007, but there are many programs out there that will allow you to download and view these RSS feeds. By following these instructions, you will be able to view the updates to our REA Blog directly in your Outlook when they become available!

When viewing a website in Internet Explorer 7 that has RSS feed information on it, your RSS button on the toolbar will light up with an orange color.

Simply click on that button and it will take you to a seperate page where you are able to subscribe to that RSS feed.

When you click the link to Subrcibe to this feed, a window will pop up. Click OK on this window to add the RSS feed. This should make the RSS feed visible in Outlook.

If the RSS feeds do not show up in your Microsoft Outlook, you will need to set up Outlook to share RSS feeds with Internet Explorer. To do so, go to Tools at the top, and select Options.

and click on the Options tab at the top. In the options tab, click Advanced Options.

In the window that opens, you should see a checkbox that says “Sync RSS Feeds to the Common Feed list”.

Check that box, and click OK. Now, shortly after closing and reopening Outlook (you may need to restart your computer) you should be able to view RSS feeds in Microsoft Outlook 2007!
